ABOUT THE ARTIST

Part textile designer, part printmaker, Gretchen takes elemental forms of the natural world into her studio and carefully transforms them by drawing, printing and pattern development collaging elements into fine art installations for public and private spaces. Always experimenting with new ways of combining processes and techniques, from the traditional to the avant-garde.


Artist Bio:
Gretchen Morrissey holds a Master of Science degree in Textile Design and Materials Technology from Philadelphia University. After graduating she served on the Textile Design Faculty at Philadelphia University and Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia where she coordinated studies for traditional hand-printed textile design and alternative techniques in digital textile design. Currently, Gretchen is a full time studio artist/designer living in Durham, North Carolina with specific interests in cross-disciplinary collaboration with textile and printmaking techniques and application.
Gretchen’s work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States and is in numerous private collections internationally.
